Mediterranean interior style

Mediterranean kitchen tiles

I grew up in Paphos, Cyprus and so the Mediterranean interior style is something I’m very used to. I visit Cyprus each year to see family and friends and I always find it such an inspiring place. The architecture and interior design in Cyprus is very mixed and although the finished look can be hit or miss, it certainly is bold and brave. Every year that I visit Cyprus, there are always new buildings popping up and I really enjoyed visiting the new Limassol Marina which is still under construction.

Anyhow, I wanted to share some beautiful home products which are sure to give your home the perfect Mediterranean interior style. Natural materials such as stone, marble and wood are typically found in Mediterranean homes. Hand-woven lace, embroidered fabrics and painted pottery are also key elements to the Mediterranean interior style. To add a really authentic Mediterranean touch in the kitchen, fill bowls with oranges and lemons and add flavoured olive oils and herbs to your kitchen counters. I’ve given this look a cool and contemporary colour scheme to give you an idea how you can incorporate Mediterranean interior style into your home, but not make it look too out of place in the UK! How rustic you go is entirely up to you though and will depend on the style of your home too.

Natuzzi Clark Sofa

Natuzzi Clark Sofa

I love this image from Natuzzi (click the image above for more info). Natuzzi is one of the most popular Italian furniture designers in Cyprus and I’ve visited their showroom often as their pieces really are works of art. The combination of this modern sofa with clean lines, the stunning marble coffee table, the antique shutters and pops of blue are a great example of Mediterranean style. Don’t be afraid to mix up the old with the new and by keeping the colour scheme simple, it gives an overall clean look.

Mosaics and colourful tiles are still very much used in kitchens and bathrooms. The style of tile is very much down to you though as the options are limitless! I’ve picked a few that have caught my eye below. If you’re looking for a quick update you can always opt for a mosaic mirror in the bathroom which will inject some Mediterranean interior style without the hard work!

BC Designs

BC Designs

Mosaic tiles, marble and solid wood are all elements that make up Mediterranean interior style and I love this bathroom by BC Designs. It embraces all three of these elements and shows you how they can work in harmony. Of course if you do not have the budget for such a look, you can use just one element such as a mosaic tile display.

Mediterranean garden
And of course, you cannot forget about your outdoor space! With the wonderful, long Mediterranean summers much of daily life is spent outdoors. Outside and indoor living blend together and it’s very common to find comfortable living spaces on the patio. Outdoor sofas and day-beds are perfect for that afternoon siesta, add some cushions and a throw for a more cosy, yet luxurious look. Extex are a luxury outdoor fabric manufacturer and I absolutely love their Mediterranean style. Their outdoor products pictured above are classically stylish, and yet their award-winning fabric collection is practical too. From experience, fabric can become brittle, light-stained and very, very quickly if left outside for long periods of time. It’s important to invest in proper outdoor soft furnishings so you don’t have to replace everything each year. Take a look at their full range of products to get some more inspiration on how to recreate that laid-back holiday spot moment in your own garden. You can also buy Extex cushions directly from LuxDeco.
