Simon Hawthorne from Life Association got in touch with me to offer my readers the chance to win one of their luxury sandal shaving soap in a rosewood bowl. After reading more about what Life Association and the Dalit brand do, I was really keen to share their story with you all. After visiting Utter Pradesh in India, Simon saw the injustice that the Dalit people – or untouchables – who have been positioned at the bottom of India’s caste society for over 3,000 years. The Dalit people are born into a culture that devalues them from birth with society considering them lower than animals. The term ‘Dalit’ literally translates to downtrodden or oppressed and there are 250 million Dalits who are exposed to this injustice. Profits made by buying items from Dalit go towards the running costs of the charity Life Association so that any donations made can go directly to helping the Dalit people of India. There are several projects across india which have been made possible through sponsoring a Dalit child or teacher and even regular cross-India bike challenges! Do take a look at their websites for more information and browse the other beautiful products available to buy online.

To enter this competition, just answer this question ‘What does the term Dalit stand for?’ via the comment box* below. Entries open to ages 18 and over and competition ends midnight 22 May 2015 and a winner will be picked at random soon afterwards.
