It’s twins – Rose Quartz and Serenity have been chosen by Pantone to be the colour(s) of the year for 2016! Ok, so the announcement was about two weeks ago but I’ve been gathering some fab images for this blog post to rival last years – Marsala – Pantone colour of the year. Rose Quartz and Serenity are everything that Marsala isn’t. They’re fresh, youthful and full of fun whereas Marsala is romantic and dramatic. As Rose Quartz and Serenity are on opposite sides of the colour chart, they balance each other out. The pale pink of the Rose Quartz warms up the cool blue Serenity. I think if you’re using both Rose Quartz & Serenity in the same room – you need to make sure there’s plenty of white and perhaps some gold elements too. For a really sophisticated interior design, use white as your main colour and just use Rose Quartz and Serenity as accent colours.
“Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” [Pantone]
I’m hoping to show you some examples of how you can use these two tones either together or separately. Some of the images below are from previous blog posts and the rest are from some fab brands embracing the 2016 Pantone colour of the year. One of them is Ochre & Ochre and their organic table linen in the featured image above.
I love Farrow & Ball’s Pink Ground featured above. It’s the perfect soft chalky pink and I’ve been trying to convince my fiance to let me paint our bathroom this colour!
If you don’t fancy getting the paint rollers out, you can add touches of pale pink in your furniture, furnishings and home accessories. I love this corner sofa by Sofa.com and this chair below from Mia Fleur. The way that both pieces of furniture are styled is really important when using blush pink. Whites and greys above give a bright and relaxed look whereas using brass and this contrasting bold blue on the wall is fun yet elegant at the same time.
These pale pink shutters by Clement Browne are so beautiful in their simplicity. Find out more on my blog post Shut up with style – Clement Browne shutters. The contrast between black and this pale pink works so well in any space, find out more: Black white pale pink home interior ideas
These wooden chairs from Danetti come in a variety of colours including this pale blue. They’re ideal kitchen chairs and only £32 each!
Anna Jacobs is a London artist and designer and there’s something really special about her homewares. I first noticed Anna’s work around 6 months ago when I spotted this beautiful lamp. Flying birds and water are quite symbolic to me and Anna’s print reminded me of this instagram post. Birds represent freedom to me and water represents transparency as well as reflection – so this lamp is firmly on my lust list! Getting back to Rose Quartz and Serenity – Anna has created the perfect balance below…
And of course some more soft furnishings furnishings!! Ferm living have styled Rose Quartz and Serenity alongside last year’s colour Marsala and it strangely works…
