I was recently lucky enough to stay in the Tuscan region of Borgo a Mozzano in a typical Italian farmhouse which was beautifully renovated and had traditional Tuscan interior style. And yes this one particular Tuscan villa was built around a large rock, even the door was cut around it to really bring the outdoors in!
Tuscan homes are simple in style and interiors are inspired by nature with natural materials and colours. Exposed wooden ceilings and beams, natural stone or wood flooring and dark wooden furniture are commonplace in a Tuscan house. The Tuscan interior style colour palette is also inspired by nature with terracotta, reds, yellows, browns, pinks, blues, greens and oranges making them warm and cosy. You’ll often see rich tapestries on the walls and intricate carpets laid on the floor, sometimes you’ll even see beautiful murals painted on the walls depicting Tuscan gardens or rolling hills with grape vines and olive trees.
Wrought iron is also an aspect of Tuscan interior style with rustic chandeliers and lamps with stained glass light shades. Bed frames made of wrought iron are typical also with cotton blankets and hand embroidered quilts. Furniture and art are passed down through the generations and can often give an eclectic style to the Tuscan home which is thoroughly charming and homely. If you’re looking to decorate your home in the Tuscan interior style, here are some key items to give your home the look:1.
