I can’t believe I’m getting married in just a few days, only the Wedding finishing touches to go now! We booked the Wedding venue at Easter and so it’s been a bit of a whirlwind planning the whole thing. Planning a wedding in under 4 months is do-able, especially if you are super organised. But would I have done it this way again? Probably not! Although ask me again next week and I’ll hopefully say it was all worth it! juggling our 4 year-old, part-time work, this blog plus a wedding has had its challenges… my fiancé works long hours as an architect and so I barely see him during the week. What little time we have had together was spent stressing out over ridiculous things such as chair decorations. So as much as I can’t wait to get married in a few days’ time – I’m looking forward to being married even more : )
Doing all this AND trying to loose weight hasn’t been easy – finding a wedding dress, even more of a challenge. It hasn’t all been hard work though. I had a lovely bride-to-be brunch a few weeks ago followed by an amazing hen party at Ascot races. This reminded me that all the stress and planning will all be worth it in the end. To be surrounded by family and friends having a great day and at the end of it all being able to call my fiancé my husband will be worth every hour spent meticulously planning this day! If anyone has any calming tips for the morning please let me know – think I’m going to be a nervous wreck!
Most people have months to go over the wedding finishing touches and decide exactly how they want to style their wedding. The key to getting great style to your wedding if you haven’t got time or a big budget is to keep it simple. Simple wedding finishing touches will look more elegant – think less is more! Pinterest is great for gathering ideas and creating a mood board (mine is above!). You can pin images that you like and it’ll help you form a simple theme. You can delete any along the way as your style develops. You’ll end up with some great ideas for your wedding finishing touches and it will also help your florist, cake-maker and any other suppliers to get an idea of what you’re looking for.
Here’s a sneak preview of some of my wedding finishing touches – check back soon for the post-wedding blog post with all the details ; )
You can pick up fantastic wedding finishing touches from so many places. We got this nautical bunting and hanging heart-shaped tea light holders from Homebase. Their selection of outdoor living décor is perfect for creating a great atmosphere in the outside space of your wedding venue. I’m hoping to use some of the bunting indoors as well as outdoors and hang the tea-light holders from branches of trees outside. My top tip for this is to use battery tea-lights as regular candles will blow out and not very safe near foliage…
I got the idea of offering guests flip flops in the evening from my best friend’s wedding a couple of years ago. I loved this idea and told her I was going to steal it there and then! The cheapest place to buy flip flops is Primark – these white ones are 90p each and come in 3 different sizes. Just take off the stickers and pop them into a pretty basket so guests can help themselves. Great for a coastal wedding like ours too!
The idea for a ‘Pimp your Prosecco’ station came from pinterest. I had a flower box that I bought in IKEA and hadn’t gotten around to planting anything in yet. It’s the ideal size to add some liquers (plus natural fruit cordial for the kids), strawberries and straws! The kids are having sparkling elderflower so they’ll get to pimp their drinks too. The frames are both from a charity shop painted in Rust-oleum chalk paint and gold spray paint. I also used the gold Rust-oleum spray paint on some (very) cheap wooden table numbers that I bought via eBay. I’ve been layering on their gold glitter spray paint also to add some sparkle.
I’ve been to a few weddings where instead of a guest book, they’ve had a finger print tree or something similar. I loved the idea of having a memory of your special day hanging up in our home. I came up with the idea of framing a piece of wallpaper and asking our guests to colour bits of it in! This fabulous wallpaper is called Hampstead from Little Greene and reflects my fiancé as an architect and myself as I was born in Hampstead! We’re adding a nice pot of sharpies in colours that reflect our home and I can’t wait to see how it turns out ; )
In lieu of traditional wedding favours and in memory of my wonderful friend who sadly passed away at Easter, we made a donation to the RSPCA. It was only in October last year that I went to Cuba with my friend Cheryl and she’d already bought a hat for the wedding, she was so excited for us! I wanted to commemorate her in some way and these RSPCA charity wedding favours felt like the perfect way. She loved cats and this will feel like she’s a little bit closer : )
Wish me luck and if you’d like to follow the images from the day on instagram just follow #NKwedding ; )
