Art Deco interior style – inspired by The Savoy Hotel

Original Style - Artworks - Art Deco Bathroom

For my birthday this year I was treated to lunch at Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant The Savoy Grill – combing my love of food and interior design, it was the perfect treat. In fact it was on my ’40 things to do before I turn 40′ list, as is having afternoon tea at The Savoy Hotel too – perhaps one for next year. I could write about the food – but I won’t… it’s Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant, he’s brilliant and his food is even better!

My grandfather was the pastry chef at The Savoy Hotel in the 1970’s (I have inherited none of his skill for baking unfortunately) and so it was wonderful to wander around the stunning hotel and see where he once worked. Although The Savoy has recently undergone a multi multi (multi) million pound renovation project to bring it back to its former glory and so it must have looked quite different in the 70s.

Oozing Edwardian and Art Deco glamour you instantly feel like you’re stepping onto a movie set – the lighting, the floor, the panelled walls and silk wallpaper is so elegant. Every room has the most wonderful detailing from the glass dome in the entrance to the hotel (top left picture), to the powder room in the Ladies’ loos (bottom left picture). And there are flowers everywhere, sumptuous orchids spilling out of their vases and pale green and white hydrangeas (my favourite flower).
