I’ve been looking at stylish home office ideas ever since moving into our new place last year. Our home office is a little outdoor brick house – you may remember a previous blog post where I spruced up the home office studio exterior. Well, I haven’t got much further with sorting out the interior – apart from having a huge clear out and putting some prints up on the wall! It’s more because of lack of budget and having to prioritise other areas such as our kitchen, bedroom and my toddler’s bedroom ; )
Colourful home office ideas
A clever use of colour can not only enhance your home office, but also your mood. Colour psychology is so important in interior design, branding, advertising etc. as a way to enhance moods. Blue is a calming, soothing colour that is said to promote intellectual thought. It’s also believed to keep hunger at bay – ideal if you’re prone to snacking at your desk! Green is also a restful colour and is associated with balance and stability. Because green can be a little too laid-back, it’s good to inject some orange, red or yellow. Colour can be brought into your home office through wall colour, furniture, office accessories or prints – don’t be afraid to add a pop of colour in a cushion or lamp too.
Industrial home office ideas
Soften the hard edges of industrial interior style by using colour and/or texture. I love this black metal writing desk from Lene Bjerre – the textured wallcovering and mohair cushion soften the look. A touch of warm metallic and some greenery makes this home office idea my favourite – so stylish that it’d make you want to work even when you don’t have to!
My last industrial-inspired home office is a bit of a wild card as it has plenty of industrial elements, but with a sophisticated finish. If you love this style, then check out Andrew Martin at Houseology for more.
Scandinavian-inspired home office ideas
Clean lines, monochrome and minimalist. These Scandinavian-inspired home office ideas are right on-trend at the moment and easy to adapt to include some of your own personal style too. Works well with white on white and better with touches of pale pastel and warm brass or copper.
Mid-century modern home office ideas
Celebrating the best of design from the 1930s to 1960s with clean lines and celebrating natural materials. Think chic, but accessible and simple design. M&S have some great options in this design style and I found these two great images below – I know I was surprised too!
Which ever of these home office ideas you like most, just make sure that your work space is an inspiring one!

These are all such lovely ideas, Natalia. I think my fave is probably that last image from M&S – a really clean and simple place to make for a productive day… Love it!

I love all of these ideas! I think it is so important to have a pretty work space when working from home. Now I just need someone to come and make my space look amazing.
Lovely selection of home office ideas.
I too have a tendency of snacking while writing. The blue wall idea appears great.
Thanks for sharing these ideas. My home office needs some upgrade. These are all great ideas.
Some great office interior design inspirations you’ve found! Designing your office space should reflect your interests and inspire you to work in that space. Completely true what you’ve said about colour psychology – the right colour can really positively influence your mood. Adding a feature wall of a colour such as blue that creates a calming mood is a great way to personalise your space.
