In August, I was lucky enough to spend a week in this beautifully restored coastal French cottage. Just outside Crozon on the west coast of Brittany within a stones throw of the Atlantic Ocean, are some beautifully idyllic cottages. Traditional Breton houses once restored, are absolute gems full of charm and character. This particular coastal French cottage, has been lovingly restored over the last 20 years by some friends of ours. I must say at this point that I never intended on writing a blog post as I wanted a real break away with my family. We had our hands full with a five year old and a four month old too! But I was genuinely so inspired by this Breton village, that I couldn’t help take some photos to share with you all.

This area of Crozon is in a conservation zone and so maintaining it’s picture postcard perfection. Slate roofs capping thick stone walls. A riot of colour with wild flowers alongside carefully pruned climbing roses and hydrangeas. It’s the interior where these home owners can make their mark. Beautifully crafted artisan fabrics and soft furnishings soften the stone walls and floors. Inspired by the coastline and surrounding nature. I love coastal interior styles and this particular coastal French cottage has paired it beautifully with Breton fabrics and lace.

The owners have lovingly restored and painted simple furniture to add some character. (I have a chalk furniture paint review if you’re keen to give it a try!). Making seashell drawer handles adds the kind of costal quirkiness that I love! Whitewashed wood panelled bedrooms give a bright and fresh feel and a splash of colour adds some fun charm. And I simply love the artisan kitchen tiles! Every inch of this coastal French cottage is full of charm and character and you can tell that a lot of love has gone into restoring it. That is what makes good interior design to me. It tells a story and sets the scene. Keep scrolling to see where they got their inspiration from…

Firstly, apologies for the awful selfie… but these two photos were taken on the same day! The Atlantic coastline is as fickle as fashion. You can’t tell what weather front will blow its way in. The mornings tended to be overcast and drizzly, but the sun would turn up at some point after a baguette and fromage lunch! We’d walk it off over the dunes down to the beach… how amazing are these views!?
