Bedroom flooring – a guide

Bedroom flooring

There are so many options available to you when choosing bedroom flooring that it can be quite daunting knowing where to start! If you’ve arrived here after searching online – it’s probably because you’ve read one or two other guides and are still unsure of what you’re looking for. Most guides will talk you through the various materials so you can choose which bedroom flooring is best for you. This is a great place to start, but if you’re really torn between laminate, wood flooring and carpet – then it’s best to decide which look you want to go for.

Hopefully this guide to bedroom flooring will guide you through the decision process and give you plenty of ideas and inspiration too!

Bright and white bedroom flooring

If you’re after a Scandinavian-inspired bedroom which is light and airy, then white-washed wooden flooring is the best option for you. White engineered wood or laminate flooring can help to create a tranquil bedroom space if paired with neutral walls or a blank canvas in which you can inject some pops of colour. Wondering what the difference is between engineered wood and laminate flooring? Engineered wood has a real wood top layer but has been manufactured so that it’s more stable than real wood flooring. Laminate flooring is completely man-made and so is generally cheaper than engineered wood flooring.

As a rule of thumb, engineered wood flooring is better if you want longer lasting flooring and have a bigger budget. If you’re after a more affordable alternative – then go for laminate flooring in the bedroom.

Pastel and natural bedroom flooring

Not only are pastel shades soothing in a bedroom, but also bang on trend as Rose Quartz and Serenity were announced Pantone colours of the year for 2016! If you’re after pale pinks, greys or blues in your bedroom I’d recommend going for carpet. Unless you want to go down the route of painting your floor that is… carpet is definitely the easier option! For bedroom flooring you carpet doesn’t need to be hard-wearing so you can opt for a softer carpet such as a Saxony or twist pile carpet. Although if you have children and/or pets, you may want a more durable carpet such as a loop pile.

Bright bedroom flooring

If your personality is bright and bubbly, why not embrace bright or patterned bedroom flooring? It’s not just for kids and you can get beautiful and grown-up carpets and rugs now. Patterned carpets are great for not only adding drama to a space, but also they’re less likely to show marks! Stripes can elongate a room giving a feeling of a larger space.

If you’re not quite feeling brave enough to go all the way – try layering up a bright rug on carpet… much easier to change when your mood does!

Bold and dark bedroom flooring

Dark bedroom flooring will turn any bedroom into a boudoir. For a really luxurious looking bedroom you can opt for a dark carpet, wood or laminate flooring. This is probably the only look I’m covering in this post where all three materials work so well. And really, it’s down to your personal taste – but I’ve picked out some of my favourite dark bedroom floors below. The tartan carpet is perfect for a twee countryside look and reminded my of the Swan hotel in Bibury.
