Bringing the boutique hotel style to your home is much easier than you realise, and lots of fun too! A boutique hotel is my number 1 place to visit for interior inspiration. I always come away with fresh ideas and I know that many others do too. The boutique hotel interior style really allows you to put your own stamp on your home and get creative with colour and pattern. This style also suits any type of property as you can mix vintage with contemporary elements such as a vintage ercol piece with a bold geometric cushion.
We want to replicate these small and super-stylish hotels so much because of their balance between form and function. They tend to be unique, but also comfortable and atmospheric. Here are some simple ideas on how to bring some boutique hotel elements in your own home.
Pick up some eclectic and vintage pieces
There are two ways to make sure that your home interior is unique – go bespoke or go vintage. If you don’t have the budget, nor the creativity to make your own furniture and soft furnishings – then do hunt for vintage pieces. eBay is a fantastic place to find second-hand goodies and my top tip is to search for items by your location so that you’re not having to drive halfway across the country for that leather Chesterfield. Keep your mind open as you can easily inject some style to pieces by changing handles, adding a new lampshade or a lick of paint.
Search for your local antiques market and head there as soon as it opens for the best finds. I keep photos of my home and various measurements on my phone in case I ever come across something amazing. I’ve also had luck in charity shops that specialise in furniture – I found a beautiful A1 render of the front elevation of the Natural History Museum by Alfred Waterhouse for a fiver! One of my newest go-to places for eclectic and vintage pieces is Soho Home – and these guys seriously know their boutique hotel style!
Buy artwork and prints
I often find that the easiest way to personalise a space is by adding artwork and prints to your walls. Whether you want to create a gallery wall or just have one big statement piece, I often advise people to start with their walls. Choosing a room scheme can be quite overwhelming and so it can be easier to start choosing your artwork and then select colours that you’ve drawn from there. Do avoid the shabby-chic though and brave the bold and eclectic. There are many places where you can search for art online and Etsy is one of my go-to places.
Layer it up
The best boutique hotels get a lot right, and one of those is their use of fabrics. The only rule to follow is not to go matchy-matchy… leave that for the chain hotel vibe. Choose complementary colours and patterns and opt for different textures to make your space both interesting and comfortable. A beautiful thick-pile rug, like this one that I reviewed recently, will anchor the room as well as create a statement. (That’s my living room in the image above.)
Don’t be afraid of colour
Whether you prefer soft pastels or bold jewel tones, just go for it! Even if your prefer neutral shades, a pop of colour in a lamp, artwork or cushion will bring that boutique style that you’re after. If in doubt, take inspiration from your surroundings. Boutique hotels often vary in their style depending on their location. What is your area known for? Are you near the coast or the countryside?
I hope this blog post has helped you to get a little closer to your dream boutique-hotel home. I’ve put together a pin-able moodboard so you can bookmark this page and come back if you need to!

Great blog post! I am forever looking for inspiration and I agree boutique hotels provide interesting ideas. I am currently choosing a large rug but I am considering layering two rugs instead to create a cosy atmosphere.
