I’m always looking on ways of creating a better sense of light and space in my home. I live in two-up, two-down Victorian terraced cottage and so it can be quite dark, especially through the winter months. A few years ago I had the wall knocked down between the living room and the kitchen which literally opened up the space and allowed light to flow through the house. Oak flooring throughout the downstairs also really helped with a feeling of space as the lines of the floorboards lead your eye through the rooms.
But still there was something missing and I had this one wall which was always quite dark. I often sit in this spot blogging or reading or watching a Disney film with my toddler. Last year I bought an angled reading lamp which improved the light, but it still wasn’t quite enough. So when Exclusive Mirrors got in touch with me about showcasing their Jigsaw mirror, I knew exactly what I needed to do!
The Jigsaw mirror arrived within a few days and was very well protected by a couple of layers of packaging. Something that surprised me was the weight of the mirror – it’s a really solid piece! I managed to unwrap it on my own but needed a hand with lifting it up on to the wall (and with the drilling too).
I chose to have the mirror in the centre of the wall and aligned with the top of the door frame, so just carefully measure out the space and use a pencil to mark the wall where the screws and wall plugs need to go. A quick wipe and the exclusive mirror is up!
Once the Exclusive Mirror was up on the wall, I felt that I needed a radiator cover to improve the space further. I ordered the Virginia radiator cover from Homebase in medium size. The large one was too big for this wall, but a quick saw of the corners and it fit snugly in place covering the radiator. The radiator cover also offers extra shelving space and handy to keep cups of tea or wine out of my toddler’s reach! It’s amazing how something so simple as a mirror can transform a space so quickly. Natural light from the windows are reflected around the room and gives a much more airy feel.
Now I really want to add another radiator cover to the kitchen radiator to improve the flow and uniformity. A radiator cover also acts as a barrier and can protect little hands from getting burnt when the heating is on in winter. It’s also great as a place to put a candle, vase or coasters on too!
This image really shows off the solidness of the Jigsaw Mirror. Each small mirror is bevelled to maximise the reflection of light, and the layered effect offers a modern and glamorous touch. This mirror would fit in nicely in a contemporary home as well as a more traditional home like mine. The attention to detail when crafting this mirror is clear (pardon the pun), it’s a beautiful piece and I’ve had so many complements on it so far!
May 2015 update: The jigsaw mirror is now back in stock after selling out last year! There are many other mirrors available on their website (exclusive mirrors even supply Peter Andre’s 60 second makeover).
