Christmas with Homebase

I’ve been getting all my decorations and a tree for Christmas with Homebase for years. It’s a great one stop shop for all things to transform your home into festive fabulousness! What first sold me about choosing our Christmas with Homebase was their awesome selection of trees. I found that the ones in the supermarket were a little on the small side and Christmas tree farms just a nightmare. With Homebase, they have a great display of trees in various sizes, they wrap your tree up and even take it out to your car for you (or they’ll deliver for a fiver). They’ll even trim your tree and cut down the trunk if you’re a huge fusspot like I am! Their prices are really competitive too and we opted for this beautiful 7 foot Nordman Fir for £40.

Normally I wouldn’t have gone for a Christmas tree that takes up a quarter of our living room. Our son is 4 years old and it’s such a magical time of year for him that we went for a larger tree than we normally would. In fact, I love the idea of getting a potted tree to bring in every Christmas – but we only have a small terrace as a garden and no space to keep a tree : ( The three things I look for when choosing a Christmas tree is symmetry, shape and thickness of foliage. The last thing you want is a wonky tree with half its needles missing!

I always end up picking up a few new decorations along with my tree. I just can’t resist, I’m like a magpie! I’ve never liked seeing our ugly tree stand poking out underneath, but found Christmas tree skirts to all be so traditional. A red and green tree skirt embroidered with gold snowflakes is really not my style! So I was chuffed to find this really simple white glitter Christmas tree skirt at Homebase – it just makes it all look much cleaner. I also found this pretty illuminated glass Christmas tree in a soft champagne gold colour and the white glitter tree that you can see at the back for just £7 each. The two white snowflake trees also illuminate and I picked those up from Homebase a couple of years ago. I loved this grey sequined snowflake cushion so much that I couldn’t resist picking it up for a tenner. I’ll store the cushion cover with the Christmas tree decorations and pop another cushion cover on for the rest of the year – saves space in your storage! (Update: my review of the Cult Furniture Moda armchairs is now up so take a look!)

For the last couple of years I’ve had a riot of colours on me tree. Mainly silver, pink, lime green, purple and turquoise! It suited my previous house more as I had a more minimalist open plan living area. This year I decided to tone things down a little (Hygge style) and used less decorations on the tree. Having a huge tree in such a small space can be quite overwhelming, so simplifying the décor will make it look much more elegant. Christmas with Homebase have a great selection of hand painted, glass and shatterproof baubles. In fact, the selection they have on the Homebase website is better than in the stores and I’ve seen quite a few that I would have bought on the day!

I kept to a colour scheme of white, silver, pale gold/champagne, pale blue and a touch of bold red to add some warmth. Plus we have collected quite a few decorations made by our son over the years and they add such an honest and fun touch to our tree!

Many thanks to Homebase for gifting us with our tree and some decorations this year! We’ll be back again next year ; )
