Stylish recycling bins with the Joseph Joseph Stack system

Joseph Joseph Stack system

From weddings to waste – and you’d struggle to find a more stylish recycling bin than the Joseph Joseph Stack system. As much as planning a wedding and getting married is, it’s actually really nice to get back to concentrating on my home and family. Every home needs refreshing from time-to-time as things break or get worn – but a family home seems to need constant updating! My 4yo is quite partial to a bit of vandalism and graffiti in the house. He managed to snap the hinge of our recycling bin off and although that section was used for clean recycling rather than rubbish, it still looked pretty awful! We lasted a few months with our broken bin until a couple of weeks ago when Joseph Joseph sent me their Stack recycling separation bins. We got the 52 litre system which includes two tall units and a food waste caddy.

Antony and Richard Joseph are London-based twin brothers who saw a niche in the market for design-led innovative products for the household. Their range includes cleaning products, kitchen utensils and accessories as well as waste management. Their design has become somewhat iconic that you can spot a Joseph Joseph design piece straight away. Their use of clean lines and simple, yet functional design is quite architectural – but it’s the focus on space saving which makes them so popular.

The two tall units in the Joseph Joseph Stack system range can be used for either rubbish or recycling. They can also be stacked on top of each other, as we have done, or next to each other under the kitchen counter. Coloured tabs allow you to distinguish between the different recycling types. Luckily for us, our recycling gets taken away mixed and so we only need one recycling bin! The food caddy is SO much better than the standard ones you get from the council. For one – the lid stays open giving you hands-free to scrape the food waste in. The lid of the Joseph Joseph food waste caddy also has an odour filter and I don’t need to explain why that’s a winner!

There are so many design elements of the Joseph Joseph Stack system which make it an awesome product – the removable inner buckets with holes making it easy to remove and carry. The removable lid on the food caddy which allows you to tuck the compostable bags inside so they don’t slip. The sliding lids which are big enough to pop your rubbish or recycling in, but don’t expose the whole bucket. The slimline shape with access from the front rather than from the side.

BUT, my favourite design aspect of all is that the food caddie neatly nestles on top and that has given me a whole worktop section back! The problem with the old food caddie was that I didn’t want to prepare food or keep anything near it. Despite emptying it every day and regularly sticking it in the dishwasher – it still smelt. Now I have that whole section freed up and it may not seem like a huge space, but our kitchen is really small! You can see my recent post on how we updated our kitchen for under £50 here to see more photos.

The Joseph Joseph Stack system is really robust too, so the little one is allowed to go near the bin again! Although he did tell me off for trying to recycle his rocket ship… naughty Mummy!
