Velux window black-out blind

I cannot recommend a velux window black-out blind enough! We put one in our son’s room a few weeks ago and it’s been amazing. At 4 years old he’s OK sleeping through the night (only since he turned 3 mind…) but the 5:30am starts were taking their toll : (

After just over 3 months of planning, the architect and I finally got married! It was the most perfect day – more on that to come. But working, blogging, child-caring and planning a wedding were causing sleepless nights and bags of stress. I’d lay awake at night going overly to-do lists and worrying over everything. And then at 5:30 on the dot, I’d be awoken with the demands of breakfast and Nick Junior…

Something had to change!

Little K has a Velux skylight in his bedroom and the summer sun would come streaming in making it difficult for him to fall asleep and then waking him up first thing in the morning. It was our fault really – we were putting off any additional costs on the house to put towards the wedding. But I was getting exhausted and desperate to make his room more sleep-friendly!

A couple of days after placing an order with orderlinds.co.uk, the Velux window black-out blind arrived. Not only is the fabric black-out, but it’s also thermal giving the room added insulation as well as maximum light reduction. The blind comes in three aluminium pieces and only requires four screws to install. Little K decided that the instructions weren’t correct and wrote his own (he can’t write yet – bless). He likes being involved in anything we’re doing and gets so excited when we do anything in his bedroom… speaking of which, you may notice the peeling wallpaper in his bedroom : 0

So easy to fit and looks great too – the Velux window black-out blind slides away without the use of any hanging cords (which can be a hazard to little ones – don’t get those!). We went for the koala grey – but there are loads of colours to choose from in the range. Another great feature is that the blind can also stop in any position. with many blinds, they’re either open or closed and it’s great to be able to control how much light you let into the room.

But the highlight for me was that Little K started waking up a little later in the mornings. Rather than the 5:30am starts, it was more like 6:30 with on 7:00am start! That hour makes all the difference and I just wish I’d done this last year when I first decorated his room!

Many thanks to orderblinds.co.uk for gifting us this fab Velux window black-out blind! We’re really pleased with the quality and ease of installation : )
