My Wedding edit: The flowers and the cake

gold white and blush pink wedding cake

With Blush pink, navy and gold wedding colour theme – it made for quite a romantic style at our wedding. Navy and white alone can be quite harsh and so I only had touches of navy and plenty of blush pink to soften the look. Using white flowers as the main accent gives a really fresh, clean and elegant look. Luckily, we had the most fantastic florist in Hampshire – Jo Hicks. During our first meeting, Jo totally got our style and was amazing at being able to deliver the look we were aiming for within our budget. That is not easy! The key to finding a great wedding florist is to not only find someone who is able to create the image you have in your mind – but someone who can inspire you and guide you also. Jo was wonderful and advising us and giving us ideas too.

As well as hydrangeas (which are my favourite flower), I really wanted white anemones too. They have a textured navy centre which contrasts beautifully against its’ white petals. This touch of navy is exactly what I was looking for with our blush pink, navy and gold wedding colour theme. The only problem was that they aren’t in season in August! Jo came to the rescue here and recommended a US wholesaler where you could buy very realistic-looking silk flowers without spending a fortune. No one noticed that our anemones weren’t real – they look amazing don’t they!? Take a look how the bouquets, button-holes and flower girl wands went with our wedding outfits here.

The silk anemones looked fabulous on top of our wedding cake too. Jo added plenty of lavender throughout our flowers to add a little more blue, but also because they added to the beautiful scents of the flowers. Imagine all of these floral scents carrying over the warm August breeze…

Now please just take a moment or two to admire this masterpiece of a wedding cake…

I was so lucky that an old school friend of mine, Katie loves to bake cakes. And she’s pretty frickin’ awesome at it too! Similarly to our wedding florist, Katie totally got our style and used her experience to guide us. I found it more difficult to have a vision with our wedding cake than with the flowers. But I did know that I didn’t want anything traditional or too structured. So Katie suggested not using navy on the cake, but on the topper to keep in line with our blush pink, navy and gold wedding colour theme. The ombre pink roses and gold confetti layers were all Katie’s ideas and we loved it! In fact we had so many wonderful complements about our cake so thank you again Katie!

Jo gave us some tips on making the most of our wedding flowers too. Rather than having one large display of flowers for each table and a spray on the top table/registrar table, we had lots of smaller vases. This made them more flexible and we could move them around depending on what we needed at different points during the day. You can check out my blog post on our Hampshire wedding venue here with more photos of how we used our flowers. Jo had some hydrangea off-cuts left and popped them into these cute glass vases which we dotted about on the patio outside.

If I was to do this again, I’d definitely go for the layered vase approach again. Choosing 3-4 vases of different shapes and sizes which complement each other is much more effective then one large centrepiece.

Thank you to Tasha from Ikonworks for the fabulous photography x
