My wedding edit: The outfits

I guess if you were going to categorise our wedding as anything, it’d be a nautical wedding. We got married by the river where my in-laws’ have had a mooring for 20 years. The venue was the location of Master Builders of ships for Nelson’s Navy, including three which fought at Trafalgar and so you don’t really get more nautical then that! I’m not really one for themes however, and prefer subtle touches rather than shout-in-your face THERE IS A THEME!

My style is simple which made choosing the wedding outfits much easier! We had touches of various inspirations for our nautical Wedding and being half-greek, this was definitely one of them. We went with elegant blush pinks, plenty of white and navy which was ideal for an August Wedding. I started the day wearing a beautiful floor-length silk nighty from The White Company – the wide neckline made it ideal for getting ready in as it wouldn’t damage my hair and makeup when getting undressed! My lovely friend Charlotte is a beautician based in Henley and did the most fantastic job sorting out my face for the big day!

The Grecian-inspired hair comb was an indulgence – but I I’d saved so much on the rest of my outfit that I felt it was justifiable! A stunning custom-made midsummer crescent comb by Kelly Spence. It’s gold plated with fresh water pearls and paired with my blush and gold drop earrings from Etsy, they looked amazing! I chose not to wear a necklace as I felt I had enough bling right there ; )

I also ended up with TWO wedding dresses! You can read the story about my beautiful Stewart Parvin dress that I found on eBay here. I wasn’t sure until two weeks before the wedding whether it’d be altered in time to fit. So I ended up buying a Phase Eight Wedding dress from House of Fraser as a back-up. They both ended up fitting beautifully and so I wore both! Although you do get what you pay for with high-street wedding dresses and I had a disaster where the zip broke on the dress and I had to be sown into it!

With two wedding dresses, you need two pairs of shoes right? I chose some blush pink heels from Pink by Paradox to wear during the day and some strappy LK Bennett ivory heels with gold threading for the evening. I picked up the LK Bennett heels from Bicester Village

where we also picked up some other bargains including my husband’s beautiful Hugo Boss suit and the groomsmen’s blush pink ties from Jaeger. The men had a touch of the nautical in their buttonholes designed by our florist Jo Hicks. Check out her instagram – it’s amazing!

And lastly, but certainly not in the least – my beautiful bridesmaids, flower girls and my little son! The kids were so easy and in fact they were the first purchase we made – straight onto Monsoon kids’ sale and bought all of their outfits in one go. Easy. And how cute are these boy’s brogues too?

The bridesmaid’s dresses were a little harder to find as I wanted blush pink dresses in a really simple and elegant design. Most of the ones I came across on the high street were either way over-priced or just to fussy. They had to complement my dress and then I came across these from Chi Chi London. I’d previously bought a dress from there for my Ascot hen do and was so pleased with it that I knew I was on to a winner! The girls loved them and they looked gorgeous didn’t they?

So what do you think on my take of a ‘nautical wedding theme’? We had plenty of other nautical references around the venue and so I felt that keeping it simple with the outfits was the best way : )

Thank you to Tasha from Ikonworks for the fabulous photography x
