Stylish bedspreads – winter’s little luxuries

Stylish breakfast in bed

To me, beds never looks quite finished without stylish bedspreads nestling on top. Perhaps it was growing up in Cyprus where the air was often filled with dust that meant our beds always had bedspreads to keep the bedding below clean. And with October’s arrival and the days getting shorter, this month is all about preparing your home for winter. And there’s nothing more cosy then layering up your bed! A stylish bedspread is a fab way to inject some more colour and texture into your bedroom as well as keeping you warmer at night… win-win right? I love the layered, slightly messy bed look. For me it makes the bed look more inviting and creates a relaxed atmosphere in the bedroom. So I like to have the bedspread tucked in at the foot of the bed and folded back at the top. Then I just chuck cushions on top in a haphazard way – normally because I’m rushing out the door!Stylish bedspreads

If you’re a minimalist, then you can pull the bedspread up over the pillows and then chuck your cushions on top! This is what I do if we’re going away and the bed won’t be used for a while as it keeps the dust from settling on the bed. I’d also recommend covering your stylish bedspreads entirely over the bed if it’s a guest bedroom as the sheets will be nice and fresh underneath for your visitors.Stylish bedspreads

Top bed-making tip

My kind friends always comment on how tidy my home is and how do I manage it all being a single-mum. Well the truth is that I do most of it without thinking. There are many habits I’ve adopted (mostly from my Mum), which save me time and makes my home a lovely place to live. Many of my blog posts are littered with these little tips and here’s a new one… Do not make your bed straight away.

You may have read in the news that messy are healthier? Well even though the papers are always going to go to the extreme when it comes to research findings, there is some truth to this. So when you wake up in the morning, plump your pillows and shake your duvet to let some air into them. Throw your duvet open so that the bottom sheets are exposd. Open your window to let some fresh air in and head for the shower. In the ten minutes it takes you to shower and get ready for work your bed has had a good airing to dry out any moisture which dust mites love. Close your window if it’s cold or raining and pull the duvet back and cover over with a bedspread. Ta da! A healthy and tidy bed which takes two minutes to achieve while you’re rushing around getting ready for the day.
Or climb back in on a lazy Sunday with some breakfast ; )Stylish breakfast in bedMy stylish bedspread featured here was gifted by Yorkshire Linen Co. and I love the simple leaf motif against the nude fabric. It’s a durable bedspread too and with withhold the wear and tear of every day life AKA toddler bouncing on the bed! It’s also lightweight and breathable and doesn’t feel heavy on the bed. It came with matching pillow cases too which are great for the bottom pillows and simply adds to the layered Autumnal look I’m going for. The light gold, nude colour complements my newly painted bedroom too which I’m yet to show fully – check back soon for the big reveal!
