The monochrome tribal rug from Rug Traders

monochrome tribal rug

I’ve been on the look out for a new living room rug and finally opted for the monochrome tribal rug or ‘the Harrogate rug‘ from Rug Traders. The reason why it’s been such a dilemma for us, and a common issue for a lot of families, is that we decided to wait until our baby is older before replacing the entire carpet. Our lounge carpet gets a proper clean every year, but after ten years it’s a little tired. My old rug had taken a bit of a battering over the last four years too and so it was definitely time for a new rug.

The prerequisites were…

Variety of size options

We went for the medium size monochrome tribal rug which measures in at 160x230cm. This was perfect for us as it allows the rug to reach the back wall so that our lounge chairs sit squarely on the rug. I could also square the rug with the fireplace and still have a walk-through on the other side. Our cottage is typically characterful/awkward and so I felt confident that I could throw out the ‘rug placement rulebook’ on this one!

Soft thick-pile wool

With a baby taking her first steps (but still crawling), it was really important to have a beautifully soft and thick rug to cushion any falls. This rug is a wool blend and as a natural fibre, wool is super soft, hard-wearing but also kind to baby skin. With young kids, we all spend a lot of time on the floor playing She loves our new monochrome tribal rug and rolls about playing and has even started trying to stand up on her own!

Fitting in with my style

Choosing a rug style can be quite tricky, but luckily I already had an idea of what I was looking for. I wanted a mostly neutral rug with a faded black pattern. I didn’t want a bold monochrome rug as it would have totally taken over this space. But I wanted the rug to complement the black Eiffel chairs and prints on the wall.

The off-white in this rug has really brightened up this cosy cottage living room whilst the Moroccan-inspired monochrome pattern gives it that boho luxe feel that I love. The mixture of minimalism, geometry and yet timelessness makes this rug a winner in my book. Definitely a versatile one too, and would suit a variety of different interior styles and colour themes.

Often when choosing a new rug there are compromises between style and function. But I can honestly say, there are no compromises with this rug – the whole family love it. My 6yo even told me off for wearing shoes in the house… he’s totally on it!

I love the print on this… very Scandinavian and it goes so well with the rest of the decor in the room. I think having a good rug can really make a room feel more homely without laying down carpet. It’s great that it is nice and thick as well, perfect for supporting little ones to take their first steps!

That’s such a beautiful rug and it’s big enough you don’t really need to think about carpets x

What a gorgeous rug! We always go for thick rugs in our lounge as we spend a lot of time playing on the floor with the little ones too x

That’s a really good looking rug, very stylish. We struggled to find the right sized rug in our last house to cover wooden floors when our son came along but eventually found one, albeit a very expensive one. Our only problem with rugs are our dog and his never-ending hairs!

Looks like a great choice. I love the faded pattern which makes it a lot more subtle and understated. I’m in the same position. Would love new carpet but the kids aren’t old enough yet to warrant replacing it. Today I had to get our carpet cleaner out as my two year old spilled a cup of sour milk all over the carpet.
